КАРСТОВИТЕ ВОДИ – ГЛОБАЛЕН И ЧУВСТВИТЕЛЕН ВОДЕН ИЗТОЧНИК

РЕЗЮМЕ

Карстът като специфично явление се развива в разтворими карбонатни и евапоритни скали. Неговата площ заема приблизително 15-20% от световната суша, която не е покрита с лед. Около 10% от световното население консумира питейна вода от карстови водоносни хоризонти, но значението на този воден ресурс е още по-голямо във връзка с използването му за напояване и за местната индустрия. Главни ограничения за използването и управлението на тези води са нестабилният дебит и високият риск от замърсяване. Ситуацията е особено проблематична при карста в аридни области, където редките и оскъдни дъждове не осигуряват достатъчно вода за попълване на интензивно използваните извори. Затова в тези карстови области се стига до изтощаване на карстовите водоносни хоризонти. За разлика от тях, в ЮИ Европа и Средиземноморския басейн има богати карстови водоносни хоризонти. Те, макар и проблематични поради нестабилния им дебит и уязвимост към замърсяване, притежават висок потенциал за попълване от дъждовни води. Това налага да се прилагат различни технически решения за контрол и защита на тези важни водоизточници.
